The People & Places that Inspire!

Shake Ridge Ranch

Amador County -Sierra Foothills

For the past nine vintages, Shake Ridge Ranch has been an integral part of Cary Q Wines. Located in California’s Sierra Foothills, the vineyard is widely regarded as one of the state’s premier sites for Mediterranean varieties. Its extraordinary diversity of soils, elevations, and exposures produces fruit with exceptional balance, vibrant natural acidity, and a true sense of place.

Shake Ridge Ranch is the vision of Ann Kraemer, whose pioneering work and meticulous approach to farming have made it one of California’s most respected vineyards. I’m proud to continue this longstanding partnership, crafting wines that reflect both this remarkable site and Ann’s enduring commitment to quality.

Miravete Vineyard

Clements-Hill, Lodi

Markus Bokisch has been a leading voice for Spanish and Iberian varietals in Lodi for decades, and I’ve long admired his commitment to farming with intention in the Clements Hills AVA. He has helped define what these Mediterranean grapes can become in California—always grounded in sustainability, site expression, and a clear respect for the land.

Working alongside Markus at Miravete Vineyard feels very aligned with the way I approach Cary Q Wines—starting in the vineyard, trusting the farming, and focusing on clarity over manipulation in the cellar. Miravete vineyard is home to Iberian varietal Xarel·lo, grown under Lodi Rules Certified Sustainable practices in the rolling hills of Clements Hills. With cooling Delta breezes, warm days, and ancient red, rocky soils, the site naturally supports balance, energy, and freshness in the fruit.

Sprague Family Vineyard

Clements-Hill, Lodi

One of the guiding principles behind Cary Q Wines is to work with family-run vineyards that farm with intention and deep respect for the land. I am especially drawn to growers who embrace organic and sustainable practices, recognizing that healthy vineyards produce more expressive wines while helping preserve these agricultural landscapes for future generations. Sprague Family Vineyard is a strong reflection of those values. Warm summer days are balanced by cooling Delta breezes each evening, helping preserve freshness and natural acidity in the fruit.

This vineyard site delivers the kind of Cinsault I love to make and drink—vibrant, energetic, and transparent to its site, shaped by thoughtful farming and a shared commitment to integrity. Located in the rolling hills of the Clements Hills AVA, this small site is home to just 3,200 Cinsault vines, farmed under Lodi Rules Certified Sustainable Winegrowing.

Fenaughty Vineyard

El Dorado -Sierra Foothills

Fenaughty Vineyard, nestled at 2,700 feet in the Sierra Foothills of El Dorado County, consistently produces wines with remarkable freshness, vibrant acidity, and unmistakable character. Its volcanic soils, cool mountain climate, and dramatic diurnal shifts create ideal conditions for growing balanced, expressive fruit.

The vineyard is farmed by Chuck Mansfield, who carries forward a deep family legacy in California farming. His father, the late Ron Mansfield, was a respected and widely admired figure in the industry, known for his knowledge, integrity, and lifelong dedication to the land. That same attention to detail and respect for farming is evident in Chuck’s work today, and it’s reflected in every vintage we source from Fenaughty.
